Alfredo Genovese

Born in Buenos Aires, on November 24th, 1964. He discovered very early the drawing pleasure, at the time of fileteado vehicles was still on course.
In 1984 he entered the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes Prilidiano Pueyrredón (Fine Arts National School). He was got really astonished when he realised that the fileteado art was not included in the curricula., and he start searching this art outside of school |

Two years later he started to take classes with the great master León Untroib.
From this moment he gradually changed his job from poster painter to fileteador. In 1988, when he graduated, he had made up his mind: he would be a full time fileteador. But he began then a long journey that lasted five years. During these years he did all sorts of jobs.
He lived two years in Italy, where he practised artistic serigraphy and mural painting. He discovered, travelling across Europe, the huge spreading of the trompe l'oeil technique and he copied countless motifs. Later he went to North Africa
and Middle East.. Also, he visited China, India, Nepal and Tibet. In all those places he observed and compared all kinds of ornamental styles.
Finally, in 1993 he returned to Buenos Aires where he worked again as fileteador and also as
trompe l'oeil painter. |
1995 was an important year for him because he settled his workshop in La Paternal, the quarter where he was born. He also contacted one of the last cart fileteadores masters, Mr. Ricardo Gómez
( Carlos Carboni's disciple ) who transmitted him the ancient craft secrets. There he works actively by request and created especialy paterns for brands as Nike, Aiwa, Evian, Villa del Sur, T&C Sport, Muchmusic, Havanna etc. and began to develope his style on bodypainting and tattoo. In recent years, many people require his fileteado designs to be tattooed on their skin
Since 1996 he has had numerous shows in art galleries and museums in Argentina and abroad . He has also showed his work in Instituto de historia de Zaragoza (Spain, 2008), Le Latina Gallery, Paris ( France, 1998), Instituto Cervantes of Chicago (USA, 1999), Fondation Argentine Paris (France, 2000), Palazzo Veronese, Cesenatico (Italy 2002)

Since 1998, he teaches Fileteado Porteño at the "Ricardo Rojas Cultural Center ", depending of Buenos Aires University (U.B.A.).
In 2003, he edited his firts book, Tratado de fileteado porteño, the most complete book about the fileteado mater (re-edited in 2006 and 2009) , Fileteado Porteño, in 2005 and Manual del filete porteño (2008) . He published all of this books with his own publishing company, Ediciones porteñas group
The sources compilation of theorical information and iconography research allows him to give lectures which made possible today both the spreading and the knowledge of fileteado in Argentina and abroad, as well.
